Summary

The novel opens with a one-page Epilogue in which a narrator explains that Simon Snow had located and destroyed two “baddies” and had not technically lived through the experience. Simon's current situation is compared to what happens after a story ends. Thus, the beginning of the novel is titled "Epilogue" instead of "Prologue."

Chapter 1 opens with an image of a young man wearing a hoodie with wings out the back and an airplane flying overhead. The chapter opens from Baz's perspective. Summer has arrived in London. Simon spends most of his time on the couch in the apartment they share with their friend Penny.
