Chapter 44 Summary
Sal, her father and Gramps are back in Bybanks on their farm. They still miss Gram. Lately, Sal's been wondering about the fireplace and whether there might be a hidden story about Gram and Gramps.
On the day after Gram was buried, her friend Gloria came to visit Gramps. They sat on the porch while Gramps talked about Gram for four hours straight. Gloria asked for an aspirin. She had a grand headache. They haven't seen her since.
Sal writes to Tom Fleet. She tells him about Gram's death and the aspen grove where she is buried. He writes back, expressing his condolences. Maybe he'll come and visit the aspen grove someday. He then asks whether her riverbank property is private.
Gramps is giving her more driving lessons. With them rides Gramps's new beagle puppy, whom Gramps named Huzza Huzza. They take turns pretending that they are walking in someone...
