Chapter 31 Summary
The next day, Phoebe arrives at school with another message. We never know the worth of water until the well is dry. Phoebe thinks maybe her mother is hidden in a well. Sal walks into Ben when she goes to her locker. He says she has something on her face and rubs the side of her face with soft, warm fingers. Sal feels like kissing him and leans forward. Just then, he turns around and slams the door of his locker. Her lips end up kissing the cold, metal locker instead. He calls her weird.
In English class, Mr. Birkway comes into class, carrying their journals. He's all excited and wants to share the journals with the class. He will share some of the passages from all the journals.
