Chapter 18 Summary

Sal's father is the light of his parents' lives. They had three other sons who all died in various accidents. He is a kind, honest, simple and good man. He likes to be outdoors, touching the earth, the wood and the animals. Sal's father doesn't like working in an office as he does now, because he is sealed up inside with nothing to touch. He's had the same car for fifteen years. He can't bear to part with it because he has touched and repaired every inch of it. He hates the idea of putting cars out to pasture and often prowls through junkyards touching old cars and buying old parts just for the joy of cleaning them up and making them work again.

He is always thinking of little things to cheer up.....
