Summary

In “Fundamental Things Never Really Change,” Kern makes his way to see Lares, but stops at Club Lazarus, where his ex-girlfriend, Kayla, still works. The "ghost" who speaks to him through the headpiece tells Kern that she moved to Los Angeles hoping to become an actress. She mentions she is a sort of shape shifter and has a good read on Kern (106). When Kayla emerges from the club, Kern tells her that he is in trouble for possibly kill a man and that Kayla is not safe and should run. In Finish Up, Kern visits Lares' apartment about a hundred feet below the surface. He usually has booby traps set up, but he reaches his apartment safely. Lares is about 25, but lives a squalid lifestyle, alone. Kern tells Lares that he got rid of the mark's phone...
