Endangered Species vs Progress

In Virals, Tory Brennan and her friends Ben, Shelton and Hiram discover the skeletal remains of Katherine Heaton, a young student who had been missing for many years. Katherine was sixteen when she disappeared. The discovery of her body comes as a result of a projectile thrown at Tory by a primate on Loggerhead Island. The projectile turns out to be one of two dog tags that had been issued to Katherine's father, Frankie, and following his death, she wore always. Katherine was a champion of the environment, and dedicated herself to helping endangered species any time the opportunity presented itself. When she discovers an eagle colony on Cole Island, she is ecstatic. She draws them in her journal, and plans to report them, but is killed by Hollis before she can.
