Summary

P. 90 – 122. Edward makes an unexpected trip to the City. When he meets John, Edward brings with him an attractive friend named Jason. John resolves to leave with one or the other of them, but they leave together, and John is alone. Later, John and Jason try to make friends, but then Jason says he has feelings for John, which leaves John feeling awkward.

There is a farewell party for Thomas, at which nobody has a good time because they are all too worried about losing their jobs. The next day, which is rainy, everyone in John’s office is watchful and nervous as several people are fired. At the day’s conclusion, the remaining workers realize that much more than the amount of money that was supposed to be saved by the firings HAS been saved.
