Part 7, Chapter 6 Summary

Mael comes to Marius, who is now held captive, and tells him that he will partake in the ritual of the sacred grove and that he will become immortal. Marius does not understand this and thinks that he will die. During his incarceration, Marius learns the ways of the Druid and learns more about the ritual in which he will take part. The old god chooses Marius to be the new god. A great calamity has befallen the old god but no one will give Marius any more details than that. When it is time for Samhain, they prepare Marius for the ritual. The ancient god approves Marius and calls him forth into the grove. Once inside, Marius sees that this old god is nothing but a helpless creature, unable to move.
