Part 1, Chapter 7 Summary

After they arrive in Paris, Lestat has a writer dictate a letter to his mother. He tells her that he now works in a theater to study as an actor. Nicholas is hired in the same theatre to play in the orchestra, as no other orchestra in the city will hire him. They live sparingly and perform for coins on the street when they need to. It is at this time at the theatre that Lestat changes his last name from de Lioncourt to de Valois so that no one will recognize the aristocratic family from which he descends.

Lestat finally gets his chance to perform on stage as Lelio, the lead in the play. Everyone discovers that he has a natural flair for acting and the role becomes his permanently. Lestat.....
