Anne, December, 1946 Summary

After Jennifer North marries Tony Polar, Anne Welles reflects sadly on her own relationship with Lyon Burke. She asks Lyon to marry her and he puts her off again because his future as an author is still too uncertain. He pays her a visit in Lawrenceville, where she is sorting through the details of her mother's estate. Lyon is charmed by her house and the town, and offers to marry her if they could live there while he writes. Anne finds Lawrenceville a stifling reminder of her unhappy past and begs him to consider some other small town. He cuts his visit short.
