Summary

In Chapter 26, Mrs. and Mr. Valentine traveled to several countries. Mrs. Valentine realized that she was pregnant. In Chapter 27, Valencia waited in the parking lot of the call center, worrying about her hallucinations. She recalled hearing the news of Charlene’s near-death in high school. In Chapter 28, Mr. Valentine disappeared during his and Mrs. Valentine’s trip to Bolivia, about four years after they had married. Mrs. Valentine thought she had seen the girl in the green jacket from the Brooklyn bridge just before losing sight of her husband. She looked for Mr. Valentine for months, but never found him. She gave birth to their son.

In Chapter 29, Lousie reprimanded Valencia for not taking her medication. Valencia told her therapist about her fear that she was hallucinating. Lousie insisted that Valencia had become obsessed with the idea that she was losing her mind...
