Summary

“Unarmed” is narrated by Chloe Garfinkle (IQ: 159). In narration, Chloe describes what it’s like to be a “gifted” student at the ASD, identifies some of the other students in her class (including hyper-competitive Abigail and hyper-intelligent Noah), and then narrates the arrival of Donovan at the school – specifically, his first appearance in her robotics class. Noting that robotics is one of her specialties, Chloe describes how, almost immediately after arriving, Donovan accidentally breaks off part of the robot currently under construction (i.e. a part corresponding to its hand), and just as immediately, starts a debate about what name the robot should be given, a conversation ridiculed by the controlling Abigail, who also tells Chloe that she went to elementary school with Donovan and thought he was pretty much just “normal”.
