Summary

Megan and Grace were painting a friend's basement one afternoon when all her criticisms and concerns about the church seemed to hit her at once. She wept, but managed to hide her tears from Grace. Most significantly, she felt she could no longer support the church's ongoing campaign of antagonism against those they believed were sinful. “God was not in this place,” she recalls thinking, “...We were a deluded people” (163).
