Summary

In Chapter 8, Peralta continues his narration of his time at Collegiate. He describes his deepening enjoyment of his Greek class, and his growing friendship with Nick. That friendship, Peralta says, involved accompanying Nick on a visit to the school where his girlfriend was studying and then inviting him to a party at his church. Nick, he says was the only white boy there, and was a big hit with both the boys and the girls.

At home, Peralta says, he was involved in something of a rivalry with Yando, who was making it increasingly clear that he did not want to do everything that his brother did, and he did not want to be expected to do everything. He was, however, developing a powerful and unique singing voice, and frequently teased Peralta about how he (Yando) was going to be rich...
