Summary

In Chapter 26, Katie, Caroline, Mary, and Chris are touring St. Catherine's care home. Katie is furious and feels Caroline is abandoning Mary. Caroline clearly approves of the place. At one point, Katie reminds Mary that Jack has recently died, and that she sometimes sees Jack at their apartment. She says Mary may not see him again if she moves here, and urges her to insist on staying with them. Mary becomes upset and confronts Caroline, saying “Steve wrote to me and I'm helping” (236), then says she does not want to leave. Caroline looks defeated, asks for literature regarding the facility, and they leave.

In Chapter 27, Katie leaves Chris in charge of Mary while she and Jamie go to a movie together. Katie again notes how sweet Jamie is, including paying for the tickets. She is trying to forget how Simona makes her feel...
