The Gertrude Stein Repertory Theatre has plans to present UBU WEDNESDAYS, "an exciting new multi-media look of the creation of the innovative UBU PROJECT. Collaborating with artists in Japan and Russia, GSRT is developing new theatre for the twenty-first century by integrating traditional stage-bound techniques with the limitless space of the World Wide Web." The UBU PROJECT is the GSRT's original, full-length adaptation of Alfred Jarry's 1896 work, Ubu Roi. The project features live actors present in the performance space, projected characters via video-conferencing, and "Digital Puppets" derived from the Japanese performance traditions of bunraku and ningyo buri.
