Apparent Truth v. Deeper Truth

As alluded to by the novel's title, Two Kinds of Truth, Bosch must constantly navigate past the shiny veneer of false truths, in pursuit of deeper truths. This theme is especially relevant in the re-opening of the Preston Borders case. The surface truth of the case is, due to new DNA evidence, Bosch accused the wrong man (Borders), wrongfully imprisoning him for decades. The deeper, ultimate truth, however, is that Bosch not only accused the right man, but that the case being mounted against him was based on devious lies constructed by Lance Cronyn.

Afterward, Bosch begins to privately reflect on this specific conflict, while reading the case file secretly given to him by Lucia Soto, he learns that Preston Borders is accusing him of falsely planting evidence. Bosch muses to himself: "He knew there were two kinds of truth in this...
