Mind over Matter Summary

Edward is driving Bella home. She wants to know how old he is, and although he thinks she cannot handle the truth, she agrees to try. He tells her he was born in Chicago in 1901, and he was dying of the Spanish flu in 1918. Carlisle, who was Doctor Cullen, found him and turned him in order to save his life. Edward says that it is difficult, almost impossible, for a vampire to feed on a human and not kill the person. It takes great restraint, and there are few with that kind of restraint, but Carlisle is unique in history for his character.

Edward says that Carlisle was lonely in the past and that was why he finds people who are dying and turns them. Edward is the first turned, and then comes Esme, who falls from a cliff...
