Nathaniel

Nathaniel is one of the main characters of the short story. His parents are Jewish immigrants, Rose and Isaac. Lucien and Charlie are his aunt and uncle. Nathaniel grew up in the Midwest, longing for a more interesting life. When he was seven, his aunt and uncle came to visit. They seemed magical, free and happy. Throughout his childhood and adolescence, he longed to live in their world. After his college graduation, however, Nathaniel remained in his hometown. His parents constantly worried about his lack of motivation and direction. He had no friends, no goals, and spent all his time working on his comic strip.
