Part 2 Chapter 1 Summary

Conseil believes Captain Nemo is a misunderstood genius who has grown tired of the world of man so retreated to the sea. But Aronnax is not so sure. He is troubled by recent events and has the thought that Captain Nemo is filled with hate and seeking revenge, for some reason as yet unknown to him.

The Nautilus travels through January. Aronnax is never bored for he enjoys the sea and his studies. On January 24 the ship comes to Keeling Island, a place explored by Darwin. Here they do some fishing. On January 25 the ship stays on the surface of the ocean, so Aronnax enjoys walking on the platform in the open air.
