Sarah

Sarah is one of the novel’s most central characters. The first half of the novel is told from her perspective. As a teenager, she is a student at the Citywide Academy for the Performing Arts (CAPA). During her freshman year, she begins dating a boy named David, but David breaks off the relationship early into their sophomore year. However, Sarah is unable to shake her feelings of love for David, and she hopes that he will eventually wish to resume their relationship. When it becomes clear that David has completely lost his feelings for her, Sarah begins dating a visiting British student named Liam. However, she soon finds this relationship to be fairly hollow and shallow, as it is based more on physical attraction than emotional love.
