Summary

In Chapter 20, “Today’s Television,” the narrative focuses on Joss’ mother, Edith Moore. She is very old—about 90 years old—but she lives alone in a small house in Scotland. Edith has not seen Joss in person in years, and she does not know about Joss being transgender, but Joss wrote her letters fairly often. Edith is white and was married to a black man named John Moore, whom she loved very much. John passed away years ago. Edith does not know Joss is dead, and she wonders why Joss has stopped writing letters to her and sending money. In Chapter 21, “Interiors,” Colman arrives at Edith’s house and says that he is a friend of Josephine, and Edith invites Colman inside.
