Parcel 1 is about Ned Kelly's life until the age of twelve, the age he was when his father died. Parcel 1 starts out immediately with Ned telling his daughter about her grandfather Red Kelly and grandmother Ellen Quinn (his mother and father.) The descriptions of the mother revolve around her fiery nature, strong temper, and difficult time dealing with Red Kelly, Ned's father.
