Chapters 50 through 61 Summary

Lieutenant Colonel James Slade pilots the Casper as the plane's surveillance equipment photographs the area. He can see little and entertains himself with a video game during the flight. The photos are delivered to Dirk and the others as soon as he lands. The crew analyze photos, including infrared, but find nothing. Dirk suggests that the ship doubled back, heading up the Chile border rather than into Antarctica. There, they could survive without heat, therefore would not show up on the infrared images. Dirk also suggests that they'll be next to a glacier, and the ship is quickly spotted on the photos. The Special Forces team prepares to move out. Pitt has to threaten his way into being allowed along, though Dirk's crew will be dropped about two miles from the site and will hike in. They are quickly joined by a geologist, Clayton Findley, who knows the area.
