Chapter 9-10 Summary

Mitch Rapp lands at Andrews Air Force base intent on finishing Aziz, and meets Thomas Sansfield and Dr. Kennedy. They whisk him away to the Pentagon for an emergency briefing at which he will act as a consultant named Mitch Kruse. Dr. Hornig informs Rapp that the group in the White House is armed not only with guns but also with explosives. She continues to interrogate Harut as Mitch makes his way to the Pentagon.

Vice President Sherman Baxter arrives at the Pentagon with his Chief of Staff, Dallas King, and Attorney General Marge Tutwiler. He is soon joined by FBI agent Skip McMahon, CIA representatives Stansfield, Kennedy and Kruse, Generals Flood and Campbell, and Secret Service Director Tracy. Immediately General Flood establishes that the Vice President is the acting President of the nation, since President Hayes is incommunicado.
