Point of View

The point of view of Trail of Lightning is first person, with 20 year old Maggie Hoskie being the novel’s narrator. Maggie’s solutions to her problems are often ones of violence. Through her perspective the reader is able to see that Maggie’s reactions are strong and that she quickly jumps to anger, believing her clan powers to be responsible for such reactions. Through her dialogue with Kai we see an alternative perspective and point of view, as he tries to show her that violence is not always the answer or even necessary.

The distance Maggie places between herself and others is evident through her perspective. She has difficulty relating to others and is not the most trusting of characters.
