Chapter 29 Summary

Kara Lynn's float is titled "Mermaid Magic" and features Kara Lynn sitting on a coral reef at the front while the four runner-up contestants cavort as mermaids in a lagoon behind her. There is a great deal of merriment prior to the parade, even though there are police everywhere, and even some policemen dressed up as Shriners will walk with the float. Keyes is in the passenger seat of the Datsun pickup the float has been built around, and can barely see out. The volume of the migrating sperm whales that accompany the float is deafening, and it is difficult to hear the police radio coordinating the bodyguards. As they turn toward the end of the route, there are several minor incidents, but nothing related to Cuban terrorists.
