They drive through the country, and it is clear from his demeanor and his speech that Pieter loves the area, being the kind of country in which he was raised. They stop at a police post in Bremerspan and then continue along the road for some distance before moving off it and onto the rough track that will take them to the low country. Here they come across a small rural community of black subsistence farmers, where Stephanie is reported to keep her child. They interview an elderly black man, who tells them where to find the girl.
