Chapter 28 Summary

Jem walks Scout to the pageant and Cecil Jacobs jumps onto the path to scare them. Scout walks around the school with Cecil and looks at all the events. The school children go backstage for the show, but Scout fell asleep. She wakes at the last minute and runs onto the stage. The audience erupts in laughter and she is accused of ruining the pageant. Scout is so embarrassed that they wait until everyone is gone.

On their way home, Scout and Jem hear someone behind them and assume its Cecil. They are almost to the road and someone chases them. Jem tells Scout to run, but the trial is dark and her costume is awkward. She feels something tearing at her costume before Jem pulls her away. They struggle with the assailant and.....
