Chapters 18-19 Summary

In chapter 18, Ada and Jeeter see Grandma Lester lying on the ground after being hit by the car, but they neither try to see if she is alive nor help her get up. When Lov comes by later to tell Jeeter that Pearl has left him after he attempted to tie her to the bed, he asks about Grandma Lester, but also does nothing to help her. In fact, Lov helps Jeeter take her to a field so that he can bury her. To help with his missing wife, Jeeter suggests that he send Ellie May to care for Lov and his house until Pearl returns. Lov agrees. Jeeter tells Ellie May to try to steal some of Lov's overalls and bring them home to him.
