Chapter 23 Summary

Davey sits with her mother and asks if they will be able to go home for Christmas. "I thought you understood...that we're staying for the school year." Davey's mother informs her. Davey is clearly upset. She still had the thought in her mind that they would be leaving soon. Davey's mother says that Christmas would be the worst time for her to go back. She can't handle going back at that time and she doesn't want to take Davey out of school in the middle of the term. They talk about it a little, and Davey manages to calm down a little.
