On the copyright page of the novel Thunderball is this notice: "This story is based on a screen treatment by K. McClory, J. Whittingham, and the author."

The 1965 motion picture Thunderball credits the screenplay to Richard Maibaum and John Hopkins, while declaring: "Based on the original story by Kevin McClory, Jack Whittingham, and Ian Fleming." As with Goldfinger, Thunderball was a United Artists release and was produced by Kevin McClory. The direction by Terence Young is surehanded. The wonderful special effects of John Stears won.....
