Part 1: Chapters 3-5 Summary

Min returns from Seoul and immediately asks Soo-Ja to marry him. Soo-Ja now sees Min as a hero and quick to agree to his proposal. Soo-Ja's father is reluctant to give his permission, reminding Soo-Ja that Min is an eldest son which means that he will take on the responsibility of caring for his parents and young siblings when he is married. Soo-Ja insists she does not care, content in the knowledge that her in-laws are wealthy business owners and will not need to rely on Min so early in their marriage. Later that night, Min sneaks into Soo-Ja's room and she allows him to make love to her, content in the knowledge that their shared passion will insure their marriage. A short time later, Soo-Ja and her family hold a ceremony in which Min officially makes an offer...
