Prologue and Part 1: Chapters 1-2 Summary

Samuel Park is a college professor who lives in Chicago.

Soo-Ja watches her husband moving around their marriage bedroom and thinks that he is a liar who tricked her.

Soo-Ja and her friend, Jae-Hwa, when they become aware of a man following them. Convinced the man means them harm, Soo-Ja leads both him and her companion on a maze through the city, finally coming out in front of a police station where a cop knocks the man to the ground. The man confesses that he simply though Soo-Ja was pretty and he was following her in hopes that she would lead him to her home so he might ask her on a date at some future date. Soo-Ja laughs and refuses to give him her name.
