Summary

The Next Day after Mailing the Tapes

The next day Clay does not want to have to go back to school and face the people singled out on Hannah’s tapes. He’s late because he mailed the tapes to Jenny Kurtz that morning. He also wants to avoid Mr. Porter’s class. He is afraid he will only be able to stare at Hannah’s empty desk. As Clay tries to open his locker, he wonders how many times he’d stood in that same spot too afraid to try to reach out to Hannah again after the night at the party when she’d pushed him away.
