"The Next Day - after mailing the tapes"
Clay describes his anxiety about going back to school, commenting that he has to face his fear. "No matter when I go back," he says, "eventually I need to face the other people on the tapes." He describes the two reasons he's late for the first time in his life - packaging the tapes and mailing them to Jenny Kurtz (for whom, he says, life will never be the same), and avoiding the first period class of Mr. Porter. As he goes to his locker, he considers the number of times he opened it while wishing for a chance with Hannah (both before and after the party), and wonders what's left in Hannah's locker now. He considers how he's going to spend the next few weeks watching the other people in the tapes for their reactions, in the same way...
