As Hannah speaks about discovering good things about reading poetry, writing poetry, and turning her tapes into poetry (see "Quotes," p. 177-8, and 178), Clay watches as Tony leaves, starts his car and begins to drive away, but then stops and remains in the parking lot. Watching Tony out the window brings the Crestmount Theatre back into Clay's attention, and he recalls how happy he was spending time with Hannah there when they were both working, but how he couldn't spend as much time with her or be as honest with her as he wanted to be because she had a reputation. He recalls almost telling her at a party a few weeks ago (see "Quotes," p. 180-1), and then returns to the tape, as Hannah describes going to a poetry writing course at the public library, hoping to have an opportunity to write happy,...
