Chapter 16 Summary

Almost two years after his first visit, Obierika once again pays a visit to Okonkwo, though this time the circumstances are more dire. Missionaries have arrived in Umuofia, built a church there, and won a handful of converts who are already spreading the word in surrounding towns and villages. Seeing Nwoye among the converts, Obierika has come to speak with Okonkwo to find out what has happened, but he will not speak about his son. Obierika hears part of the story from Nwoye's mother.

The news of the missionaries' arrival - there were five of them and one white man - in Mbanta caused a great stir and so everyone gathered to hear the white man, through an interpreter, speak. He had explained to them about God, the Creator of all the world. And.....
