The whole village assembles on the ilo, the village playground, waiting for the matches between the two teams to begin. The first three matches are simply a precursor to the main event, and are contested by boys between the ages of fifteen and sixteen. The first two matches are over quickly, the third even moreso, but few people have seen that kind of wrestling before and it causes a sensation among the crowd. The boy, they all soon learn, is Maduka, the son of Obierika.
During the break between these matches and the real bouts to follow Ezinma, at last, recognizes the woman standing next to her. It is Chielo, the priestess of Agbala, the Oracle of the Hills and the Caves. She can hardly believe it is the same person as the one.....
