Manhattan

The novel takes place in a futuristic Manhattan. The time period is still relatively close to our own, as it references commonly known places such as McDonalds and social media such as Instagram and Facebook. However, the new Death-Cast technology has created new parts to the city as well, including Make-A-Moment stations and the World Travel Arena. Although this is the home of the main characters, they both admit that they never got to really explore the city. Mateo confesses to Rufus that “there’s so much I never got to see in my own city” (261). On their last day, Mateo and Rufus ride the subway all across the city, visiting some of their favorite spots together.
