Summary

While Rufus is waiting for Mateo, he is thinking about his friends who still haven’t responded to a single text or call. Suddenly, Mateo rushes out of the building and tells Rufus that it is time to go. He is clearly upset over his goodbye to Lidia and Rufus calms him down. He shows Mateo his Instagram, and tells Mateo that he keeps his pictures in black and white because his “life lost color” after his family died (158). Mateo suggests that he should post his life in color: “Let that be how the Plutos remember you” (159).

Mateo receives a notification, alerting him that there is a “Make-A-Moment” location nearby, a virtual reality station for Deckers (162).
