Chapter 20 Summary

After he gets drunk, Jurgis comes down to earth and realizes the common sense truth: Ona is gone, but the rest of them must figure out a way to stay alive. Jurgis is filled with a sense of obligation. After all, he's got his son, Antanas, to take care of. So he goes back to the fertilizer mill, and is turned down. He has been blacklisted because of Connor. He gets a job at a packing yard, but then the boss finds out who he is, and takes the job back. Finally, he gets a job in the harvest-works through a friend he had met when he was in the union. He finds the work.....
