Bethel

Bethel is a small village in a fantastical world the reader is never made entirely certain of. Bethel exists inside a sea of haunted forest that the residents are not allowed to venture into for fear of being attacked by witches and beasts from their own, unique religious mythology. The only way out of Bethel is through the Hallowed Gate, but only the Prophet and his closest companions have permission to exit and return from the gate. The village of Bethel is run by the Prophet, who also runs the church. The people believe in polygamy and underage girls are often pushed into marriage with older men. There is little technological advancement and people travel by horse and trade goods at the village market in the town square.
