Summary

In “A Year Later,” on December 4, 1938, Buddy wrote a letter to Santa and asked for a dog.

In “Whistle Stop, Alabama,” on Christmas Day, all of the gifts had been opened. Santa had left to go back to the North Pole. Buddy was trying not to cry. He noticed even after they were finished singing Christmas carols, the people continued to stay. Finally, Idgie told Buddy that Santa had come back with a present that he forgot to give Buddy. Idgie opened a box to reveal the three-legged dog.

In “Weems Weekly,” Dot described the Christmas festivities as well as Buddy’s surprise when Idgie gave him the dog.

“Whistle Stop, Alabama” is Buddy’s letter to Santa thanking him for the dog.
