Summary

In Chapter 45, Magda asked Stefan why they had not heard from Rudi. Stefan supposed it was because Rudi was seeing Fay. Thinking Rudi was "rather a wolf," Magda worried he would break Fay's heart (163).

Meanwhile, while Rudi and Fay were on a date, Rudi wondered about the rest of Fay's story. Though she had already revealed many heartbreaking details, he worried she was nervous to share the rest. He suggested she tell him more over dinner, joking about his "own disgraceful past" (167). Fay felt comforted.
