Summary

Chapter 56 is set on Sunday, Nov. 7. Anna wakes alone and immediately feels guilty because she had sex with David in Olivia’s bed.

In Chapter 57, Anna sits in her living room and sees herself reflected in the television. She wonders how she would handle her situation if she were a character in one of the movies she loves. She knows that she would not just sit. Anna is angry with herself and her inability to do anything because of her agoraphobia. She also resents the negative opinions that she feels people like her neighbors, the police, and even her psychiatrist have about her because of her disorder.

After a while, Anna goes back upstairs and notices the door to a closet is not completely closed. She remembers having closed it and knows that she would have noticed it sooner if it was open...
