Summary

In Chapter 10, set on Sunday, Oct. 31, Anna wakes on Halloween morning after a night of losing at chess. She plans to turn off her lights that evening and pretend no one is home.

In Chapter 11, also set on Sunday, Anna is pulled away from her movie by the sound of kids throwing eggs at her house. She is angered by their audacity and sees their attack on her house as an attack on her. She feels helpless because she cannot go outside and confront them, but hears her therapist telling her that she is not helpless. In a moment of courage, Anna jerks open the door and is hit by an egg. She falls, suffering a panic attack. The next thing she remembers is another woman helping her into the house.
