Summary

Keckwick shows up at Gifford Arms in “Across the Causeway.” He takes Arthur in his pony trap to Eel Marsh House. Along the way, they pass the local church. Arthur remembers the woman in black. As they approach the house, Arthur is struck by the beauty of the marshes. Once they finally arrive at the house itself, Keckwick tells Arthur he will come collect him at five in the evening. Arthur decides to explore the grounds. He spots a small, abandoned graveyard. There, he sees the woman in black once more. She seems evil to him this time and he feels frightened.
