Summary

“Time Out” begins with 00 is alone in the middle of the silent field. “She spills open the bag of balls / kicks each ball offstage in a fury / she is panting and wound up and crying / she tears her skirt off / and sinks to her knees / in a black sports bra / she holds her shirt / and screams” (136)

In “We Are the Wolves – Section 1,” stage directions indicate that 46 has a cold and that she and 11 start the scene staring at each other. 46 sneezes. Conversation is awkward and full of silences, with 46 asking how 11 has been since…and 11 lets the question hang for a while, eventually saying she has not been too good. 11 asks the same question, and 46 comments that she got the cold that was going around.
