Epilogue, Chapters 53-54 Summary

Michael has a heart attack after his drowning and spends the next several weeks in the hospital. Ryan tells Michael that the family realizes that Rowan has left without adequate evidence of foul play. Rowan goes to Europe and begins transferring money from her accounts. She leaves the house to Michael. Michael decides not to tell the family about what happened. He writes in his diary.

In Chapter 54, Michael writes about Lasher's birth and his vision when he drowned the second time. He has a party at the house for Mardi Gras and faces his childhood fears of the parade drums. Michael is amused when a child calls him "that man." Michael decides to stay in the house and wait for Rowan to come home to him.
